Aoife Mac Alister
MMus | BMus | BA | ARIAM
I am an award-winning classical pianist with over twenty years playing and a decade of teaching experience. I studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music for over ten years where I was awarded the Gold Medal for Piano Performance with Distinction, the Certificate in Performance, and an Associate Teaching Diploma.
I am also a graduate of University College Dublin where I completed my Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees. My Masters in Music was completed at Kings College London and was awarded with Distinction.
I have been the recipient of a number of special awards, including the Aer Rianta Young Musician of the Year, and have been a prize winner at numerous national music competitions across Ireland in solo piano and chamber music.
Having suffered significant playing-related musculoskeletal problems which led me to extensive research and training, I now specialise in healthy piano technique and artistry. I have been studying the Taubman approach since 2018, working with the foremost experts in the world including Edna Golandsky, Therese Milanovic, John Bloomfield, and Robert Durso. My studies are generously supported by The Arts Council of Ireland.
Beginners and advanced players alike can benefit from this ground breaking expertise. Through my online piano studio I provide expert tuition in classical piano to students of all ages and levels and coach clients in the prevention and resolution of Playing Related Musculoskeletal Disorders through integration of the principles of the Taubman Approach.
The primary focus of my work is as a piano teacher and coach providing education in musicians’ health and healthy piano technique, however I also offer tuition in music theory and leaving certificate music. In addition I work as an accompanist and collaborative pianist.
I look forward to hearing from you!
